MLK Day 2018 of Service at Project Light

Facelift - Outside and Inside

Project Light applied for and received a grant for Martin Luther King Day of Service 2018 from the State College of Florida.  The project included painting trim and doors inside, walls and mural outside, cleaning and  striping the parking lot.  It was an ambitious project and also a great success.  Forty volunteers from churches, RPCV‘s, board members, teachers and students worked 450 hours to do all the work. The 5 artists from Manatee Unitarian Universalist Fellowship repainted the mural with the same theme as the original mural painted in 2001 by Barbara Elliot.  St. Frances and the Animals of Florida now features a sea turtle, manatee, and dolphin in addition to the original mural’s alligator, panther, and many birds.  Teachers, students and the community of Bradenton are all happy about the beautification of our building and grounds.

MLK Awards Banquet

Five volunteer workers represented all the volunteers at the Martin Luther King Day of Service Banquet in March 2018 to receive a certificate for our Day of Service Project. Chris, Randy, A.J., Amador, and Samantha accepted the certificate.

Randy Cooper joins the Board

Randy Cooper joined the Board of Directors of Project Light in the Spring of 2017. He is a civil engineer and fire commissioner with the West Manatee Fire District.  He has been very helpful with the web page, the heavy work of setting up, scaffolding, painting and pressure washing for MLK Day of Service Project. Welcome, Randy!

Teacher Appreciation Week 2016

With about 25 teachers working at Project Light on different days it is hard to get them together for a luncheon but they all got their pizza, salad and words of thanks from members of the Board of Directors the week of April 10 - 16.  There were 5 meals served on different days to accommodate everyone.  It was a good opportunity to relax together, get to know other teachers and share ideas.
