Volunteering As A Way Of Reconnecting After A Year Of Social Distancing

Updated: Aug 23, 2021

2020 has been the year of social distancing, and while working from home and not interacting with friends and family has helped stall the spread of a dangerous virus, it has also helped the spread of social and emotional disconnect from our community. As a result we all now struggle with face-to-face social interactions which are vital for our mental health and benefit the local communities greatly.

If you are one of those people that craves human interaction in a safe and productive environment, then volunteering for Project Light Of Manatee might just be the best thing you do in 2021. Volunteers at Project light offer English classes to non-English speaking American residents in order to help them better integrate in their communities, find new work opportunities and improve relationships with family.

As a volunteer English teacher, you get the benefit of building connections, learning about new cultures and languages, as well as making a significant difference in people's lives. But don’t take our word for it, there are studies that show that volunteering helps individuals feel less isolated and it improves overall well-being by creating much needed human connection.

So as we heal from the 2020 isolation pandemic why not start by giving back to your community and volunteer to share your knowledge of the English language.
